What do you do when love is no longer enough—and holding on costs you more than just letting go?

New York singer-songwriter ROREY joins The Jeremiah Show for a deeply personal conversation about heartbreak, self-respect, bipolar disorder, and the music that emerged from one of the most difficult relationships of her life.

Her new album, I Get It Now, available August 14, chronicles the slow disillusionment of loving someone deeply while realizing the relationship cannot survive. ROREY opens up about carrying a relationship long after she knew she should put it down, romanticizing someone's absence, learning to choose herself, and finally accepting that some people change your life without remaining in it.

ROREY also discusses how songwriting has helped her navigate bipolar disorder and intense emotional states. For her, creating music isn't simply an artistic exercise—it's a form of survival. "I write for myself," she explains. "In the moment, it's a form of therapy."

We go inside the stories behind "Dying Fire," "I'm Sure," "Temporary Tragedy," "Quiet Love," and her new single "Binary Thinking," a song inspired by the unanswered questions left behind when someone disappears from your life without explanation.

ROREY also takes us behind the visual world surrounding her music, including the remarkable one-take video for "Hurts Me to Hate You," created with her mother, and her noir-inspired video for "Binary Thinking."

Ultimately, I Get It Now isn't a record about having all the answers. It's about the moment when you finally stop fighting what you already know.

"This album has no ego and no pride," ROREY says. "I am not posturing. I am devastated. In every single song, my heart is bleeding. And I have no shame in that."

ROREY's new album I Get It Now is available August 14.

One question changed Soulful Smallz's life forever.
Long before he became an R&B artist, Soulful Smallz was a little boy from East Long Beach who lost both of his parents at just six years old. Searching for belonging, he found himself caught in a cycle that led to juvenile hall, prison, and ultimately 14 years behind bars.

But it was inside prison where everything began to change.

In this deeply personal conversation, Soulful shares how music became his therapy, how one inmate's simple question—"Do you want to live life... or do you want a life?"—transformed the way he saw himself, and how Homeboy Industries helped him discover purpose beyond his past.

Today, Soulful uses his music and his story to inspire others who are searching for hope, healing, and a second chance.

This is a conversation about loss, redemption, and choosing the life you want to live.

Today’s Music Soundtrack Includes Music Artists: Soulful Smallz, Beno, and MM.

Stories Worth Passing Down
The first lessons we learn in life rarely come from classrooms.
They come from kitchens.

For author and publisher Mauricio Velázquez de León, the aroma of simmering beans, handmade tortillas, and family recipes became a bridge between generations.

Inspired by his relative, legendary Mexican culinary pioneer Josefina Velázquez de León, Mauricio has spent his career preserving culture through storytelling—first as the founder of the award-winning children's publisher Duopress, and now through food writing that celebrates the people, traditions, and memories behind every meal.

In this heartfelt conversation, Mauricio shares his journey from Mexico City to New York, explains how homesickness led him to rediscover authentic Mexican cooking, and reflects on why food has the remarkable ability to transport us back to the people and places we love most.

We also explore the philosophy behind Duopress, the importance of making books fun for children, and how scientific research, curiosity, and creativity shaped one of the most successful children's publishing imprints in America.

Finally, Mauricio introduces his delightful new cookbook, An Illustrated Guide to Tacos and Burritos: A Comic Book with Stories, Recipes, and More—an inventive blend of culinary history, authentic recipes, and graphic storytelling that makes Mexican cooking approachable for everyone.

Whether you're passionate about food, publishing, travel, or family traditions, this episode is a reminder that the best stories are often shared around the table.

Some journeys take us far from home.
Others teach us that home never really leaves us.
Born in Kazakhstan to a Kazakh father and an Uzbek mother, award-winning singer-songwriter SANGINA joins The Jeremiah Show for a deeply personal conversation about identity, freedom, and the experiences that shape who we become. From the ancient Silk Road and the traditions of Central Asia to recording music in Los Angeles, her story bridges two cultures while remaining deeply rooted in both.
During the conversation, SANGINA reflects on growing up in a family of entrepreneurs, discovering music through childhood choir, competing on international television shows including The Voice, and the life-changing competition in Turkey that gave her the confidence to pursue music professionally. She shares how studying at Musicians Institute opened new creative possibilities as a songwriter, producer, and independent artist while helping her build a career entirely on her own terms.
She also discusses blending Eastern musical traditions with contemporary Western production, preserving the excitement of songwriting, navigating the challenges of independence, and mentoring aspiring singers to become confident, self-sufficient artists rather than relying on a vocal coach forever.
Along the way, SANGINA reflects on representing Kazakhstan wherever she goes—not simply as the country where she was born, but as the place that taught her generosity, resilience, and, above all, freedom. She also shares the remarkable milestones of becoming one of Kazakhstan's first Grammy Voting Members, receiving multiple nominations at the Hollywood Independent Music Awards, and explains why she believes success begins with remaining curious enough to keep learning.

The Pizza That Brought Italy to California

Classic Episode #241

Before the awards, the long reservation lists, and the national acclaim, there was simply a dream.

In this Classic Episode, originally recorded just one year after opening Bettina Pizzeria, founders Brendan Smith and Rachel Greenspan share the remarkable story behind one of California's most beloved restaurants.

From an unexpected love story that began over a cream delivery in Brooklyn to building a mobile wood-fired pizza business before opening their Montecito restaurant, Brendan and Rachel discuss sourdough fermentation, California farmers, Italian inspiration, hospitality, and why creating community matters just as much as creating great food.

More than a conversation about pizza, this is a story about craftsmanship, partnership, and building a place people never want to leave.

Bullied. Isolated. Alone at lunch. Natalie Hampton transformed one of the darkest chapters of her life into the award-winning Sit With Us app, inspiring a global movement of kindness and inclusion.

Classic Episode #236 * Originally Aired in September 12, 2019

Long before kindness became a trending conversation, Natalie Hampton was living its opposite.

After enduring years of severe bullying in middle school—including physical attacks, public humiliation, and eating lunch alone—Natalie refused to let her experience define her. Instead, she founded Sit With Us, a free mobile app designed to help students find a welcoming lunch table and create more inclusive school communities.

In this inspiring Classic Episode of The Jeremiah Show, Natalie shares how one simple invitation—"Come sit with us"—grew into an international movement that has impacted students around the world.

Joined by her mother, Carolyn Hampton, the conversation explores bullying, resilience, youth activism, mental health, and the extraordinary impact a single act of kindness can have on someone's life.

Sometimes changing the world begins with saving one seat at the lunch table.

The greatest restaurants don't just serve meals. They become part of our lives.

James Beard Award-winning chef and restaurateur Suzanne Goin joins The Jeremiah Show for a timeless conversation about creativity, hospitality, leadership, and what it really takes to build a restaurant that endures.

In this classic 2019 interview, Suzanne reflects on the terrifying opening night of Lucques, the self-doubt that accompanies every new menu, and the philosophy that has guided one of America's most respected culinary careers. She shares stories from her childhood, from her time working alongside culinary pioneers including Alice Waters, Nancy Silverton, and Mark Peel, and explains why serving guests is both an honor and a lifelong responsibility.

Jeremiah and Suzanne also explore the realities of running multiple restaurants, mentoring the next generation of chefs, balancing creativity with business, and why the greatest compliment isn't an award—it's becoming the restaurant where people celebrate life's most meaningful moments.

The conversation also highlights Suzanne's remarkable philanthropic work with L.A. Loves Alex's Lemonade, which has raised millions of dollars for pediatric cancer research through the generosity of the culinary community.

More than a conversation about food, this episode is about purpose, perseverance, and creating places where people feel cared for.

"If you love a restaurant, keep eating there. Keep supporting it." — Suzanne Goin

Sometimes the greatest victory isn't hearing someone say "yes." It's refusing to let every "no" define you.
Originally aired on October 24, 2019, this Classic Episode features Will Breman, the Santa Barbara singer-songwriter whose unforgettable audition on NBC's The Voice SN17 earned him a spot on Team Legend and launched a remarkable new chapter in his career.
Will was the first artist from The Voice to join The Jeremiah Show—the beginning of a journey that would eventually bring 54 Voice Artist interviews on the show.
During our conversation, Will shares the emotional story behind his Blind Audition, the relief he felt when John Legend and Gwen Stefani turned their chairs, and the years of perseverance that led to his breakthrough after leaving his day job to pursue music full-time. He also speaks candidly about living with Asperger syndrome, how songwriting became his voice, and why authenticity has always mattered more than fitting in.
Listeners will also hear the stories behind Will's original songs from his Santa Barbara Soul Music EP, including the deeply personal inspiration for "Olive Trees," as well as his reflections on creativity, community, and finding hope through music.

The shortest distance between two cultures... is a laugh.
Originally aired on October 5, 2019, this Classic Episode features internationally acclaimed comedian, actor, bestselling author, and humanitarian Maz Jobrani in one of the most thoughtful conversations ever featured on The Jeremiah Show.  This episode was the first of many appearances by Maz.

Best known for the groundbreaking Axis of Evil Comedy Tour, his hit Netflix special Immigrant, CBS's Superior Donuts, and countless sold-out performances around the world, Maz shares how comedy became his way of building bridges between cultures rather than walls between people.
During the interview, Maz reflects on growing up as an Iranian immigrant in America, why laughter can challenge stereotypes, and how finding common ground through humor has shaped both his career and his life.

He also offers a moving tribute to his late sister, award-winning filmmaker Mariam Jobrani, whose documentary Everything Must Change chronicles her courageous battle with breast cancer and reminds us to embrace every moment of life.
Equal parts hilarious, heartfelt, and inspiring, this Classic Episode reminds us that some of the most meaningful conversations begin with a laugh.

Could you leave everything behind for your dream?
Sometimes the biggest dreams require the biggest leap.
On The Jeremiah Show: Pop Culture, Music Icons, Food Gods, independent recording artist Rita Red shares the remarkable story of leaving Russia behind to pursue her lifelong dream of becoming a singer in Los Angeles.
It wasn't simply a move across the world—it was a leap of faith.
Rita opens up about arriving in Los Angeles with determination, embracing uncertainty, and receiving an opportunity that would validate her decision almost immediately. On her very first day, she landed her first paid singing gig, performing Taylor Swift and Harry Styles songs at a birthday party—a moment that reminded her she was exactly where she was meant to be.
Beyond her inspiring journey, Rita reflects on conquering her fears, following her instincts, building a music career from the ground up, and why believing in yourself often comes long before anyone else does.
Whether you're chasing a dream, starting over, or wondering if it's too late to take the next step, Rita's story is a reminder that extraordinary things can happen when you have the courage to begin.
Sometimes one leap of faith is all it takes.

Welcome to Season 22 of The Jeremiah Show: Pop Culture, Music Icons, Food Gods.
This week, we launch Season 22 with independent pop artist Maeve De Voe, whose colorful alter ego, Princess of Pop, has inspired fans (called Devotes) to step into Maeveland, the whimsical world she created, where they become characters in her story, speak Maevenese, and are encouraged to be themselves.
At first glance, Maeveland may look like pure fantasy, but behind the princess fashion, the glitter of her tiara, peach colored hair, and playful persona is an artist with a genuine message of authenticity and belonging. Maeve shares how embracing her imagination helped her discover her voice and why creating music has become a way to encourage others to celebrate who they truly are.
From building an independent music career to creating a community where everyone is welcome, Maeve reminds us that sometimes the world we imagine can help us become the person we were always meant to be.
Step into Maeveland.

What if the smallest act of kindness became the greatest love song ever written?

Singer-songwriter Naomi Jane returns to The Jeremiah Show for an intimate conversation celebrating her upcoming debut full-length album, Kinda Sorta Country, releasing October 9, 2026.

Together, Jeremiah and Naomi explore the stories behind three deeply personal songs that capture the transition from adolescence to adulthood. Naomi reveals how her father unknowingly inspired the touching single Clementines, explains how a painful betrayal became the empowering anthem Pumpkin Eater, and shares the memories behind Farren Road, the coming-of-age ballad inspired by a hidden road on California's Central Coast where generations have fallen in love.

Throughout the interview, Naomi reflects on navigating heartbreak, online criticism, changing friendships, discovering her artistic identity, and learning the difference between loving someone and finally being loved in return.

The conversation also explores her evolution from the innocence of her 2024 EP sweet talk to the confidence and creative freedom that define Kinda Sorta Country.

Produced by Adam Zelkind and featuring collaborations with Nashville songwriter Joey Hyde and acclaimed musicians including Toad The Wet Sprockets' Glen Phillips, Greg Leisz, Jimmy Mattingly, Theo Haber, Tyson Motsenbocker, and Greg Holden, Kinda Sorta Country balances polished musicianship with deeply personal storytelling.

"I'm not chasing anymore. I'm choosing,” says Naomi.

This episode also features the world premiere of "Farren Road", heard here before its official release.

If you've ever experienced first love, first heartbreak, or wondered how artists transform life's hardest moments into beautiful songs, this conversation is for you.

Support independent music this summer. Pick a small artist—and make it Naomi Jane.

What does it take to build a successful career in Hollywood that spans more than four decades?

*This episode originally aired on November 21, 2019

On this episode of The Jeremiah Show: Pop Culture, Music Icons, Food Gods, Jeremiah Higgins sits down with actor, writer, producer, and comedian Tim Stack for a candid and entertaining conversation about comedy, perseverance, and surviving the ever-changing entertainment industry.

Best known for Son of the Beach, Night Stand with Dick Dietrick, My Name Is Earl, Parker Lewis Can't Lose, and memorable appearances on Seinfeld, Tim shares stories from his remarkable career, including his early days with The Groundlings alongside Paul Reubens and Phil Hartman, working with Howard Stern, Larry David, Rodney Dangerfield, and Jay Leno, and creating hit television shows that developed devoted cult followings.

Tim reflects on the highs and lows of Hollywood, including a pivotal missed opportunity with Saturday Night Live that ultimately shaped his career and taught him one of the most valuable lessons in show business: the importance of collaboration and getting along with people.

Packed with behind-the-scenes stories and hard-earned wisdom, this is a masterclass in longevity, resilience, and doing what you love.

Few musicians can say they helped shape a musical movement from its earliest days. Even fewer can say they stood alongside legends as that movement changed the world.

In this episode of The Jeremiah Show: Pop Culture, Music Icons, Food Gods, guest host Mike Gormley sits down with reggae drummer Carlton "Santa" Davis, one of the most respected rhythm makers in Jamaican music history.

Born and raised in Jamaica, Davis began playing drums at age eleven through a Catholic youth organization that kept local kids focused on music and community. What began with a makeshift drum kit assembled from marching band equipment eventually led to a career performing with some of reggae's most influential artists.

During the conversation, Davis reflects on Jamaica's close-knit music scene of the late 1960s and early 1970s, when aspiring musicians gathered on Kingston's famous Orange Street and Chancery Lane, hoping for studio calls and opportunities. Those early experiences led him to recording sessions with Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, and Bunny Wailer during reggae's formative years.

Davis shares stories from his earliest recordings with The Wailers, his years working alongside Peter Tosh, and the discipline needed to survive in Jamaica's highly competitive studio environment. He also discusses reggae's global expansion, noting that today's audiences span Europe, Eastern Europe, and beyond, proving that Bob Marley's vision of reggae reaching the world continues to unfold.

Now touring internationally to promote his 2025 album “Thy Will Be Done, "Davis remains both a steward and a participant in reggae's ongoing evolution. His stories offer a rare firsthand perspective on the artists, studios, and communities that transformed a local Jamaican sound into a global cultural force.
